     Matthew Raulston was born circa 1742 in Augusta County, Virginia.1,2 He was the son of William Ralston and Eleanor (—?—).2 He married Martha "Polly" Moore, daughter of John Moore and Jean (—?—) (Moore), circa 1764 in Augusta County in that part set off as Botetourt County in 1770.2 He died on 29 December 1800 in Jefferson County, Tennessee.2 He was buried in Beth-Car United Methodist Church Cemetery, Jefferson County.2
     
     Matthew Raulston with his father William established a large plantation in Augusta County, Virginia, adjoining historic "Greenfield," owned by the Prestons.3
