"Records indicate that he [Stephen] was the second son of William Pearce, Sr. and Sarah Bray [and] was born in Georgia on December 19, 1783. He came to Louisiana with his parents in 1808. He (Stephen) called his holding "Magnolia" and was twice married. His first wife was Sally Goodwin Bray who could have been related to his mother. They were the parents of eleven children, but [she] passed away in 1829 at forty years of age. Mr Pearce then married Anne Grimball Tanner Brown in 1830. She was the widow of William Brown and had had one son of this union--William Robert Brown. The only issue of the second was Stephen Samuel Pearce...who was born on October 18, 1833--two days after the death of his father." (Hart, Mary P., "Stephen Samuel Pearce", an undated pamphlet). Note: most sources give 1803 as the year of the Pearce's removal to Louisiana Territory.
