     Francis Sowerby was the son of NN Sowerby. He married Katherine.1 He died in 1678 or 1679 in Surry County, Virginia.1

Francis Sowerby first appears in the Surry County, Virginia, records 28 December 1659.2

Francis Sowerby was granted 211 acres in Surry County "lying upon the heads of the two northernest branches of Greys Creek" on 21 May 1666.3

On 1 March 1666/67, he was granted eighty acres in Surry County "beginning at a corner tree betwixt Ralph Creeds land, and Colonel Jordan."4

On 1 July 1672 in Surry County Francis Sowerby was granted "666 acres, 455 acres parcell thereof adjoining to the land of Mr. Thompson. The other 211 acres being, formerly granted to the said Sowersby [Sowerby] by patent bearing date the 21st May 1666."5

His will, dated 8 November 1678, and probated 4 Mar 1678/79, mentions his wife Katherine, son Francis, "all my sons," daughters Sarah and Elizabeth, brothers Thomas and James Sowerby, and daughter Jane Rix.6
