Naomi Jared was born on 17 September 1797 in Jackson County, Tennessee.1,4,5,6 She was the daughter of Captain William Jared and Elizabeth Raulston.2,3 She married John Simmons, son of Robert Simmons and Ann Miller, on 5 October 1815 in Buffalo Valley, Jackson County, Tennessee.4,1,7,8 Click to view image The date of death on her gravestone is 24 December 1876.6 According to her great-grandson, Frank Robinette, Naomi died on 30 December 1877 in Mountain Grove, Wright County, Missouri, at age 80.1 She was buried in Old Mountain Grove Cemetery, also called Old Pioneer's Cemetery, Wright County, Missouri.1,6

John and Naomi migrated to Perry County, Missouri, then to Carroll County, Arkansas, Greene County, Missouri, where John received bounty land for War of 1812 service, then to Oregon County, Missouri, and finally to Wright County, Missouri, where John died in 1868.1 In October 1875, Naomi was living in Lawrence County, Arkansas,7 probably with her daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Bergen Israel. If Frank Robinette's information is correct, Naomi moved back to Wright County, Missouri, where she may have lived with her daughter Elizabeth Upton.

Additional Data
Naomi and John Simmons appeared on the 1 June 1860 Federal Census of Hartville, Wright County, Missouri, enumerated 14 September 1860.9 Click to view image

Naomi Simmons was living in Thomasville, Oregon County, Missouri, in May 1872 when she applied for a widow's pension based on John Simmon's service in the War of 1812. Her application, that included sworn affidavits and an original page from the family bible, was submitted on 3 June 1872. Her claim was received 4 June 1872 and rejected 24 June 1872, by reason of marriage subsequent to 17 February 1815. Naomi applied again on 14 October 1875, and though the outcome is not included in her pension application papers, it was probably rejected as well because the pension laws had not changed. She was at that time 78 years old and living in Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas, probably with her youngest daughter Anna, and Anna's husband, Bergen Israel.7 Click to view image
