     Israel Pickens was born circa 1693 in Northern Ireland.4,5,6,7 He was the son of William Pickens and Margaret (—?—) (Pickens).1 He married (2) Martha Nisbit of Lincoln County, North Carolina, circa 1740 in North Carolina.1 He died in 1749 in Cub Creek, Brunswick County, Virginia.1 He was buried in Cub Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.1
     
     Israel Pickens, probably the oldest son of William and Margaret Pickens, came with his parents from Northern Ireland to Bensalem, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where he united by profession with the Low Dutch Reformed Church in 1720. He married soon after and moved to Orange County, Virginia, where he had a mill near Staunten before 1740. About 1743 he moved to Brunswick County, Virginia, and settled at Cub Creek, now in Charlotte County. He was a member of Cub Creek Presbyterian Church.8 He was married two times and had issue from both.1
