     William Fairfield was born on 26 December 1754 in York County, Maine.3 He was the son of John Fairfield V and Mary Burbank.2 He married first Sarah Burnham on 27 December 1781 at Church of Christ, Arundel, York County, Maine.4 He married second Mary King, daughter of David King and Elizabeth Gray, on 25 August 1790 at Biddeford.1,5,3 He died on 16 March 1827 in Kennebunkport (formerly Arundel) at age 72.6,3 He was buried in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.7 Click to view image
     
     William Fairfield was the third generation of the name in York County, Maine, his grandfather John Fairfield having moved there from Massachusetts as a boy with his mother and stepfather. He was almost certainly born in Arundel (renamed Kennebunkport in 1821), where his three youngest siblings were baptized between 1771 and 1777. (Baptismal records of Church of Christ, Arundel, found to date, begin in 1771). He was a sailing master, as ship captains were then called, who sailed ship owned by Tobias Lord, Jr. He was a private in the American Revolution, and was in Captain Daniel Merrill's Company, Colonel Samuel Brewer's Regiment at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777-1778.8 Click to view imageClick to view image He made application for pension on 8 April 1818, at which time he was 64 years of age and residing in York County, Maine. His pension was allowed for four years' actual service in the Massachusetts troops, Revolutionary War. After his death, his widow was also allowed a pension.9 Click to view image

Ebenezer Sprout's regt; Continental Army pay accounts for service from Feb. 1, 1777, to Feb. 1, 1780; also, Capt. Daniel Merrill's co., Col. Samuel Brewer's regt; muster return [year not given]; residence, Arundel; engaged for town of Arundel; mustered at Wells; also, same co. and regt; subsistence allowed from date of enlistment, Feb. 1, 1777, to March 17, 1777; credited with 59 days allowance; travel also allowed from home to Bennington, the place of rendezvous; also, return made by Nathaniel Wells, Muster Master, of men who were unfurnished with firearms, etc., from whom a stoppage had been made for procuring the same, according to a resolve of Court [year not given].10
