Cyrus Fairfield
Cyrus King Fairfield was born on 27 December 1834 in Kennebunkport, York County, Maine.1 He was the son of Asa Fairfield and Olive Stone.1 He married first Anna L. Fields on 12 June 1860.1 He married second Isabella A. Briant Wednesday, 7 July 1875 at Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.1 He married third Mrs. Mary Fogle on 1 April 1916 at Hillsdale, Michigan.2

Cyrus was six months old when his father moved the family from Kennebunkport to Fort Wayne, where, during his long life, he was a farmer, traveling salesman and engaged in the real estate business. He married three times and had two biological daughters by his second wife. His first wife, Anna, probably died, but there is no record. His second marriage to Belle ended in divorce several years before 1916. His controversial elopement and marriage to Mrs. Mary Fogle, a young widow of Muncie, Indiana, made the front page of the Fort Wayne Sentinel, as did the outcome 49 days later.

Cyrus was interviewed on various occasions about his family history and life in early Fort Wayne, as the Fairfields were among the first white settlers in the area, and were locally prominent. Cyrus celebrated his 85th birthday on 27 December 1919, and probably died soon after as he is not found in the 1920 census.

However, the family information contained therein was carefully copied by Laura (Munson) Cooper some years prior to that time. The handwriting was imitated and the formatting preserved in the copy, and it is still in the possession of the writer. Unfortunately, the publication data was not understood at the time the copy was made to be important, so that is lost forever. Hereinafter cited as Fairfield Bible.
