Jonathan is called cordwainer in a number of deeds dated between 1679 and 1725. He was apparently still unmarried in 1708 at age 51, there being no release of dower. At age 67 he married Mary Marston, a widow of Salem, and by her had two sons, Jonathan and David.3

Jeremiah Neale, administrator of the estate of Mary Mansfield, executrix of the estate of her former husband John Neale, brought in an inventory on oath of about 31li., which was to be divided into six shares. Jeremiah Neale, the oldest son, was to have a double portion, the other four shares to be to Jonathan Neale and Joseph Neale, and the widow Ann Neale for the use of her children and the children of Jonathan Hart that he had by Lidea Neale. [Ipswich Quarterly Court, September 1681]10

Jonathan Neale made his will on 5 July 1732, and it was proved eight days later. He describes himself as a husbandman, doubtless having abandoned his trade in his last years. He makes his now wife Mary his executrix, and leaves all of his property equally between his two sons Jonathan and David, mentioning his homestead and his north field lot that he inherited from his grandfather, and placing the boys in charge of "thier mother Mary Neal my now wife."11
