     Anna Butterfield was born on 8 July 1678 in Chelmsford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.1 She was the daughter of Joseph Butterfield and Lydia Ballard.1 She married Simon Tompson, town clerk of Chelmsford, son of James Tompson.2
     
     Anna is named as a child of Joseph and Lydia in "The Butterfields of Middlesex," but doesn't appear in the Chelmsford birth records unless she is the daughter born on this date not named because the original record is torn.
