     Mary Bates was born on 8 May 1667 in Chelmsford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.1,2 She was the daughter of John Bates and Mary Farwell.1 She married Josiah Cleveland, son of Moses Cleveland and Ann Winn, circa 1689.3 She married Robert Boswell/Buswell on 22 January 1721/22 in Canterbury, New London County, Connecticut.3 She died on 20 July 1743 in Canterbury, Windham County, Connecticut, at age 76.3
     
     Mary Cleveland was named in her father John Bates's will dated 18 July 1716.1 She and Josiah Cleveland had eleven children.3
